Living Legends
Carl Pettitt

The Eustis Historical Museum is proud to present their signature series titled “Living Legends of Lake County” with an interview featuring former Lake County Schools Superintendent Carl Pettitt. The event will take place on Thursday, June 9th at 6 p.m. at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church at 317 South Mary Street in Eustis.Pettitt will talk about his experiences in the area, his teaching years, including a long stint at Tavares High School, and his term as the elected Superintendent of Lake County Schools in the 1980's.

The interview series, conducted by Timothy Totten from the Eustis Historical Museum, highlights the life and work of important Lake County residents. Previous honorees include longtime Supervisor of Elections Emogene Stegall, former Sheriff Noel “Evie” Griffin, Jr. and former South Lake Press publisher Ann Dupee.

The interview event, which is free and open to the public, is hosted by the Eustis Historical Museum and season sponsor, Eustis Mayor Michael L. Holland. “Each Living Legends of Lake County event is videotaped,” said Totten. “Our sponsor is making it possible for us to burn these recordings to DVD and share this great history with every high school and library in the county.”

Future interviews, usually held on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m., are being organized. To suggest a legend or for more information, please call Timothy Totten at 352-242-8111.
